LV House

Beverly Hills, California

Located in the Trousdale estates of Beverly Hills, the LV House is conceived as a single story pavilion characterized by its clean lines, open spaces and subtle sculptural detailing. 

The site is typical of the Trousdale Estates, which terraces the building pads and limits the heights to a single story, providing views for each lot.  The lot is accessed from the West with an upslope neighbor to the North.  A lush hillside provides privacy to the east while sweeping views of Los Angeles open up to the South.

The plan is organized around an L configuration, providing privacy to the north and west sides with the main living spaces opening up to the south and east. The living room looks over a slightly raised infinity pool blocking the view to the neighbor below.  The kitchen, dining and family area open up to and spill out on the lush garden to the east. Full height sliding glass doors pocket away to create a seamless connection to the exterior.

Smooth white plaster walls are complemented by a dark stained mahogany ceiling and millwork, accentuating the colors of the sky and surrounding landscape. The ceiling is separated from the back wall of the main living area with a long thin skylight, washing the wall with light. A very rational plan and refined material palette allow the architecture to recede and amplify the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
