Hillcrest Residence

The Hillcrest Residence is located in the Trousdale Estates of Beverly Hills. The site backs up onto a lush hillside, providing privacy while opening up to views of the city below.  

The project is developed as four detached volumes housing the private areas of the house. The negative space created by the placement of these volumes define the main living and circulation spaces, which flow seamlessly into the primary outdoor spaces. Various water elements anchor each outdoor space, integrated as part of the architecture.

The entry sequence begins with a private auto court featuring a reflecting pool that leads to the main living space past the bedrooms. The pool, garden and outdoor living area function as a direct extension of the indoor living room through floor to ceiling glazing and sliding glass doors that pocket away to create a seamless transition between the two. This spatial sequence is organized along an axis, creating a generous indoor/outdoor living space that spans the length of the property.
